Expert Air Filters Solutions

Air filters are the unsung heroes of your HVAC system. They protect sensitive internal components from dust and debris while simultaneously cleaning the air your family breathes. Yet they're one of the most commonly neglected maintenance items in any home. At Captain Heat and Air, we make air filter management simple and effective.

Not all filters are created equal. We help you navigate the differences between standard fiberglass filters, pleated MERV-rated filters, and hospital-grade HEPA filtration options to find the right balance of air quality and system performance for your specific needs. The wrong filter can actually restrict airflow and damage your system — our experts ensure you get it right.

For our maintenance plan members, we offer automated filter delivery and reminder services so you never have to worry about a dirty filter degrading your system's performance or your indoor air quality. Clean filters mean lower energy bills, fewer repairs, and healthier air.

Benefits of Air Filters

Healthier Indoor Air

High-quality filters trap up to 99% of airborne particles including dust, pollen, mold spores, pet dander, and bacteria — critical for families with allergies or respiratory conditions.

Protected HVAC Equipment

Clean filters prevent dust and debris from coating your evaporator coil, blower motor, and other sensitive components — reducing wear and preventing costly repairs.

Peak Energy Efficiency

A clogged filter forces your system to work up to 15% harder to push air through, directly increasing your energy bills every month.

Reduced Household Dust

Properly filtered air means significantly less dust settling on your furniture, electronics, and surfaces throughout your home.

Fewer System Breakdowns

Restricted airflow from dirty filters is the #1 cause of preventable AC breakdowns, including frozen evaporator coils and overheated compressors.

Signs You Need Us

Visibly Dirty or Clogged Filter

If your filter looks grey, matted, or caked with dust when you inspect it, it's well past due for replacement and may already be affecting performance.

Increased Allergy or Asthma Symptoms

If household members are experiencing more sneezing, coughing, or respiratory irritation indoors, your filter may not be capturing enough airborne allergens.

Musty or Stale Odors

A musty smell when your HVAC system runs often indicates a saturated filter that's circulating stale, contaminated air through your home.

Noticeably Reduced Airflow

If the air coming from your vents feels weaker than usual, a clogged filter is likely restricting your system's air circulation.

Higher Than Normal Energy Bills

Unexplained increases in your utility costs can often be traced back to a dirty filter forcing your system to consume more energy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions about our air filters? We have answers.

How often should I change my air filter?

Standard 1-inch filters should be replaced every 30–90 days. Homes with pets, allergies, or high dust levels should check monthly. Thicker 4–5 inch media filters can last 6–12 months.

What does the MERV rating mean?

MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value) rates a filter's ability to capture particles. Ratings range from 1–20. For most homes, MERV 8–13 offers excellent filtration without restricting airflow.

Can the wrong filter damage my AC?

Yes. A filter with too high a MERV rating for your system can restrict airflow, causing the evaporator coil to freeze, the compressor to overheat, and potentially leading to system failure.

Should I use washable or disposable filters?

While washable filters reduce waste, disposable pleated filters generally provide superior filtration performance and are easier to maintain properly. We can recommend the best option for your system.

Do you offer a filter delivery service?

Yes, for our maintenance plan members we offer scheduled filter deliveries so you always have the right filter on hand when it's time for a change.
